Bridging The Gap – The Satya Bharti Elementary School Program
The Satya Bharti School Program is aimed at providing end-to-end schooling to underprivileged children in rural India. With this vision, it intends to set up one senior secondary school for every cluster of 10 primary schools. At present, only five senior secondary schools as against 245 primary schools are operational.

The five senior secondary schools currently operational, however, cannot cater to all the children passing out of the primary schools, thereby creating a gap in the education process of children. Therefore, students are compelled to either discontinue education or enroll into another school. Bharti Foundation is thus in the process of upgrading a select number of Satya Bharti Primary Schools to the elementary level by including Classes VI to VIII. These schools will be known as the Satya Elementary Schools.

12 of the 49 Satya Bharti Government Primary Schools being run in partnership with the Rajasthan Government in Neemrana and Amer have already been upgraded to the Upper Primary Level.

An additional 50 Satya Bharti Primary Schools across Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are being upgraded to the elementary school level in partnership with Google. The Satya Elementary Schools are being set up in villages where there is not only a demand from the community but also favorable Government support towards the program.

Objective

To ensure continued access to education up to the elementary level
To ensure continued availability of quality education to children studying at the Satya Bharti Primary Schools, with special focus on the girl child and children from marginalized communities
To demonstrate a model of quality schooling in rural India up to the elementary level by a private/non-government organization

Program Plan

Infrastructure
The colorful Satya Elementary School buildings will stand out as beacons of hope amidst the rugged rural landscape. The schools will have an additional three classrooms to accommodate students of classes VI to VIII and one resource room.

In addition, the schools will incorporate the BALA (Buildings as Learning Aids) concept of using the school building as a learning aid in itself. The integration of this technique will ensure that with multiple exposures to these inbuilt teaching-learning aids, children will subconsciously inherit, understand and remember educational concepts.

In-school Support
Satya Elementary Schools will be equipped with Computers, Creative Learning Material, Playground Equipment, Sports Kits and Libraries to create a joyful learning experience for children. There shall be extensive use of cassettes and CDs as part of regular teaching process, which will focus on vocabulary development, language skills and even honing musical skills among the students.

Education will be supported by additional schemes such as free school uniforms and educational materials, including books, note-books, stationery, educational games, library books, etc.

Teacher Recruitment
The elementary sections will require four additional teachers and a Head Teacher besides the existing six primary section teachers. Part-time teachers may be involved for sports and extra-curricular classes.

The recruitment of teachers will be done primarily from source and feeder villages and neighboring communities where the schools will be based. This will help generate employment opportunities for the local youth.
