Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Vice-Chairman, Bharti Enterprises pointed out that “Nearly 300 million children in the age group of 7 years and above are still illiterate while 42 million children in the age group of 6-14 years do not attend schools. However, today with the rapid growth of the Indian economy and the increasing job opportunities, parents across all sections of society want the best quality education for their children. It is to address this growing need for good education that Bharti Foundation has initiated a large scale program to take quality education to rural India by setting up its Satya Bharti Schools in the rural pockets of the country. Hailing from Punjab, we believe that our contribution to society should also benefit the land which is our home and has given us so much. Our commitment to our state and our country in the form of Satya Bharti Schools will provide quality and performance benchmarks to our other education programs and will also inspire other players working in the field of education. It is our firm belief that active private-public partnership backed by community involvement can change the education scenario in the country. The approach has to move towards a more holistic involvement as well as openness to innovative thoughts that private partners will bring in."
